Why insurance experience matters
When someone suffers a serious injury, a major catastrophe such as a house fire, burglary, or even when that person may be at fault for a serious automobile accident, what determines the ultimate outcome is most often insurance.
There are currently 196 American Bar Association approved J.D. (Juris Doctorate) law schools in the United States. About half of them offer no courses in insurance law at all. The others only offer one three credit course in insurance law and it is offered as an elective. In other words, it is not a required course to become a lawyer.
This, among other things, is what separates the Lama Law Firm, LLP from most other law firms.
A career built on understanding insurance
Prior to becoming an attorney in 1993, Luciano (Nino) Lama entered the insurance industry in 1972. He partnered with his father in the L. A. Lama Insurance Agency. Nino carried licenses with major insurance companies including American International Group (AIG), Travelers, The Hanover, Progressive, Great American, NGM, the New Hampshire Insurance Company as well as with local mutual insurance companies. He served on the advisory boards of The Hanover, Progressive, and Great American insurance companies.
During his career in the insurance field, Nino taught the New York State Agents and Brokers licensing course, taught Risk Management and Insurance at Ithaca College, taught a risk management seminar at Cornell University, taught Risk Management and Insurance courses for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) in New York City, and acted as a consultant to Cornell University’s Risk Management Department.
Writing the book on insurance
You could say he “wrote the book” on insurance as well. Lama has a distinct history of authoritative publications written specifically for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). His works primarily bridge the gap between accounting and business insurance, serving as staple continuing education materials across the United States.
His primary AICPA publications include:
